Publishing

Independent News & Media (SA) (Pty) Limited, is the leading newspaper group in South Africa, publishing 16 daily and weekly newspapers in the country's major metropolitan centres.

The group owns and publishes 14 free/community newspapers in the Cape and also has interests in free/community newspapers in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal. It also publishes three of South Africa's leading lifestyle magazines and has significant interests in outdoor advertising, electronic media and commercial printing/publishing.

In Cape Town, the group publishes the leading English language mainstream titles in the morning (The Cape Times), the afternoon (The Cape Argus) and over weekends (The Saturday Argus and The Sunday Argus), as well as 14 community newspapers. The "red-top" tabloid - Daily Voice - caters to the popular end of the emerging "mass-market" in Cape Town.

The group's flagship title, The Star, is published in Gauteng along with the Saturday Star in Johannesburg, the Pretoria News in Pretoria and The Diamond Fields Advertiser in Kimberley. The Guateng operation also publishes The Sunday Independent nationally and holds a 25% interest in 12 free/community newspapers in Pretoria.

In KwaZulu Natal, the group publishes The Mercury (morning), Daily News (afternoons), the Post, The Independent on Saturday, the Sunday Tribune and Isolezwe and has a 33% interest in a number of free/community newspapers which are distributed in and around Durban.

The group's wholly-owned magazine division (Conde Nast Independent Magazines) publishes GQ, House & Garden and Glamour.

Online

The group's news portal, iol.co.za, is South Africa's dominant news, current affairs and classified site. The portal, together with the group's individual newspaper titles and other niche sites, now deliver well over three million unique visitors per month.

Outdoor Advertising

In January 2008, INM agreed with Clear Channel Outdoor (CCO) to acquire CCO's 50% interest in Clear Channel Independent (CCI), Africa's largest outdoor advertising company, taking INM's ownership to 100%. INM has owned CCO as a 50-50 joing venture with CCO since 2001.

CCI is the largest and fastest-growing outdoor advertising company in South Africa, with significant operations in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
