New Editor for The Star newspaper
Independent Star Limited announces the appointment of Mr Gerard Colleran as Editor of The Star.
Mr Colleran was editor of The Kerryman, for the last 5 years, and is a native of Mayo, reared in Quin, County Clare. He has a BSc in Economics from London University, and an MBA from the University of Limerick. He is 44 and married with 3 children.
He succeeds Gerry O'Regan, who was recently appointed Editor of the Evening Herald.
Announcing Gerard Colleran's appointment, Mr John Thompson, Managing Director of the Star said: "We are delighted that Gerard has agreed to join us and we are confident that he will make an enormous contribution in the continued success of The Star newspaper into the next Millennium."
Commenting on Gerard's appointment, Mr Jim Farrelly, Managing Director of the Kerryman said: "We are sorry to lose Gerard who has made a huge contribution to the development of the Kerryman over the last 5 years. We wish him all the very best in his new role."
The Star is Ireland's leading tabloid paper, and the second most popular daily newspaper in Ireland, with a daily readership of 417,000 and circulation of 93,000.
