New Editor for Evening Herald newspaper

Independent Newspapers (Ireland) Limited announces the appointment of Gerry O'Regan as Editor of the Evening Herald with immediate effect.

Mr. O'Regan was previously editor of The Star, the phenomenally successful tabloid daily which under his guidance has increased its circulation by 30% from 72,027 to 93,344 in the period since he became editor.

Mr. O'Regan succeeds Mr. Paul Drury who has been editor of the Evening Herald since December 1994.

Announcing Gerry O'Regan's appointment, the Managing Director of Independent Newspapers Ireland, Gavin O'Reilly said: " We are indeed fortunate to have Gerry O'Regan as editor of the Evening Herald. He brings enormous energy, enthusiasm and an unerring instinct for providing readers with a lively, newsy and stimulating newspaper. I know that Gerry will successfully drive forward the Herald, Dublin's largest newspaper.

"I would like to thank Paul Drury for the tremendous effort he has put into his role of Editor of the Evening Herald and I wish him well in his future career".

The Evening Herald is the capital's leading newspaper with an ABC circulation (to June 1999) of over 110,000 and a commanding readership of over 340,000.
